SuperCounselor is Thankful For . . .

SuperCounselor is thankful for all of her kind and faithful readers who no doubt understand that the recent dearth of posts is directly related to all the superheroics that she has had to perform in this pre-holiday season. (She knows you’ve been being superheroic yourself! ‘Tis the season, after all.) She promises that she will actually finish and post some useful stuff soon, but right now she’s got two more crazy days of school, and company’s coming, so all she has time and energy for at the moment is something easy, like introducing you to her family. (Wait, did I say her family was easy????) This year, SuperCounselor will be hosting Thanksgiving dinner at her house. (Surprise! She doesn’t actually live at school, although sometimes it feels that way.) She is so thankful for her family members, who have helped make her the superhero she is today. (Perhaps you’ll be able to tell how!) Here’s who will be sitting around her table . . .

Her parents, Mary and Fred. Yup, they mated. And school has never been the same!

Look what the wind blew in – Mom!

You guessed it! Dad arrives by trolley!

Her Auntie G, who always helps SuperCounselor remember that she already has all the tools she needs to help her solve difficult problems. (And sometimes gives her awesome shoes!)

Dad comes via trolley, but Auntie G travels by BUBBLE!

Uncle Cesar. He’s a little hard to hear sometimes, because he tends to whisper, but SuperCounselor learned a LOT of tricks from him!

When he whispers, everyone listens!

Grandpa. To emulate him, SuperCounselor tries. Yes, hmmm.

SuperCounselor is hoping she ages a little better than Grandpa has.

Grandma. SuperCounselor learned all about peace and social justice at Grandma’s knee. Grandma may have to cancel her visit, because she’s been busy volunteering in the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy.   (Actually, this is my real-life Mom, the ultimate Hippie Grandmother!)

My real-life mom, who spent the week around her 75th birthday volunteering in 12 hour shifts (and sleeping in a tent) following Hurricane Sandy.

SuperCounselor’s kids, Howard and Ramona will no doubt keep things lively. SuperCounselor has lots of opportunities to hone her superpowers with these two in the house.

Sometimes SuperCounselor thinks that the function of Howard’s behavior is to drive her crazy!

Shhh! Don’t tell anyone! Ramona is JUST LIKE SuperCounselor was as a kid. See, there’s hope for everyone!

Taking care of everything (as usual) that SuperCounselor can’t get to when she’s off saving the day, SuperCounselor’s loving and supportive husband, Louis Lane, who sometimes wishes SuperCounseIor would turn back into mild mannered Clara Kent, but who nevertheless supports her in all her heroic endeavors.

Seriously, did SuperCounselor luck out in the husband department, or what?!!!!

Univited, but certain to attend, is neighbor Stuart (because what is a School Counseling by Heart blog post without a mouse?)

SuperCounselor is often at odds with the mice who like to frolic (and poop) in her dollhouse and on her desk. She is NOT a fan of rodents, no matter how cute they may be!

And patiently waiting for scraps, and ramping up the fun, will be SuperCounselor’s model dog, Asca, the standard poodle.

Asca sets the standard for what a model dog should be! Also, she really ramps up the fun. (Sorry, couldn’t help myself!)

No need to make a genogram, I’m sure you’ve gotten a really good picture of the forces that have shaped SuperCounselor into the sometimes-frazzled but always-dedicated superhero she has become!

SuperCounselor and I hope you have a wonderful Thanksgiving and that you get to hang up your cape and enjoy a glorious few days’ break from school! Now there’s something to add to your “I’m thankful for . . .” list!
